Cassamajor
University of the Renaissance
Civil Engineering

Cassamajor grew up in the countryside with his parents and three older sisters. After completing middle school, he moved to Jérémie to live with his aunt so he could attend high school. His journey through school was challenging due to his family’s difficult economic circumstances. There were times when he faced daily hunger, but his determination never wavered, and he successfully graduated from high school in 2022. Despite these hardships, Cassamajor excelled in his studies, with math, physics, and biology being his favorite subjects.

After high school, Cassamajor dreamed of going to college, but his family’s financial situation made it seem impossible. His aunt, who supported him through high school, has limited resources and three children of her own, while his parents struggle back in the countryside. His mother makes a living as a street vendor, and his father raises livestock. However, an epidemic devastated the local animal population, severely impacting his father’s livelihood. Despite these setbacks, Cassamajor held onto hope, praying for two years for a chance to pursue higher education. Today, his prayers have been answered because Cassamajor is a civil engineering student at the University of the Renaissance in Jérémie. Driven by a desire to make a meaningful impact, he aspires to “become the kind of person that society needs in every way.”

Education

Education is a step toward a brighter future. However, most families struggle to afford to send their kids to school. When a student is supported through Thrive Ansanm, we cover the cost of their tuition and other school costs, so they can stay in school and succeed.

Technology

Digital access creates opportunity and connection. Most Haitian students don’t have a computer or high-speed internet, but at our resource center local students can access laptops, high-speed internet, and consistent electricity, so they won’t get left behind in today’s digital world.

Mentoring

Mentoring develops the leaders of tomorrow. We match university students with personal mentors who who provide guidance from their experience. These mentors are qualified professionals from the local community, so they understand the unique challenges confronting Haitian students.
