After completing high school in Port-au-Prince, Philibert earned a certification in French and English translation and began teaching those languages at an elementary school in Jérémie. He continues to work as a teacher today, but his income is limited and primarily goes toward paying rent and supporting his grandmother and mother, neither of whom has a stable source of income.
Born in the small countryside town of Aquin, he was raised in Port-au-Prince by his grandmother after his mother, a single parent, was unable to continue caring for him. His grandmother provided for him and supported his education through high school, but now she is 82 years old, and she can no longer work.
Determined to build a better future, he applied and was accepted into the computer engineering program at the University of the Renaissance (URH). He managed to make it through the first year, but he didn’t have the money to pay for his second year. Now, because of the support of our partner HELP for Haiti, he has received a full-ride scholarship that will enable him to continue his education. His goal is to complete his degree in computer engineering, and he hopes to eventually specialize in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
Beyond his academic goals, Philibert would one day like to build a digital platform that would connect young people in Haiti with educational resources and remote work opportunities, including employment with international companies.
