Notre Dame University of Haiti
Management

Naïka recently completed her first year at the University of Notre Dame in Jérémie, where she is studying management. She made it through her first year with financial support from her sister, who was working in the States, but her sister lost her job, so she couldn’t continue supporting her.

Originally from Port-au-Prince, Naïka has faced significant challenges throughout her life. Her mother passed away when she was 16 years old, after which she lived with family friends in Port-au-Prince for several years. When that arrangement could no longer continue, she moved to Jérémie, where she now lives with her mother’s cousin.

Despite these obstacles, Naïka remains determined to pursue her education, and now she can continue her studies without financial worry. After graduating, she hopes to start her own business and possibly earn a doctorate in administrative science. Her long-term goal is to become a college professor while managing her own enterprise.

In addition to her academic ambitions, Naïka is actively involved in her community. She participates in two youth clubs in Jérémie, reflecting her commitment to personal growth and community engagement.

Education

Education is a step toward a brighter future. However, most families struggle to afford to send their kids to school. When a student is supported through Thrive Ansanm, we cover the cost of their tuition and other school costs, so they can stay in school and succeed.

Technology

Digital access creates opportunity and connection. Most Haitian students don’t have a computer or high-speed internet, but at our resource center local students can access laptops, high-speed internet, and consistent electricity, so they won’t get left behind in today’s digital world.

Mentoring

Mentoring develops the leaders of tomorrow. We match university students with personal mentors who who provide guidance from their experience. These mentors are qualified professionals from the local community, so they understand the unique challenges confronting Haitian students.
