Nelson is just three years old, growing up in a small rural community called Paroty, where a narrow dirt road winds up the side of a mountain. His home is a fragile shelter—more makeshift than permanent—with a dirt floor and a corrugated metal roof that shields the family from rain. The walls are woven from thin wooden slats, and only one small room is fully enclosed with a layer of mud-based plaster.
Inside this single space, Nelson lives with his parents and three older siblings. Life is simple and crowded, with very few possessions. Still, the family relies on what they can grow around them. Nelson’s father plants sweet potatoes on their small plot of land, and the breadfruit and mango trees nearby help provide food when they can.
Despite their hard work, Nelson’s parents struggle to earn enough to meet even their basic needs. His mother does not have a steady job, but she finds small ways to contribute—cooking for neighbors or selling cookies and snacks when she can afford to buy ingredients. His father works part-time as a moto-taxi driver, but because he does not own the motorcycle, he must share his earnings with its owner. Some days, after hours of work, he returns home with little or nothing. On top of this, the family must pay yearly rent for the land their shelter stands on.
Even in the face of these challenges, Nelson’s parents are deeply committed to their children’s education. They have managed to enroll all four of their children in a nearby government school. While the cost is low, the quality of education is inconsistent. Teachers are sometimes unpaid and go on strike, leaving classrooms empty and learning interrupted.
Nelson’s parents have made significant sacrifices—living with less, going without, and stretching every resource—because they believe education is the key to a better future for their children. Still, the burden is overwhelming, and keeping their children in school remains a constant struggle.
With sponsorship, Nelson would have the opportunity to attend a stable, quality private school in the city. His tuition would be fully covered, along with school supplies, books, and uniforms. His family would also receive support for transportation and daily meals, ensuring he can attend school consistently and focus on learning.
Your support would do more than educate Nelson—it would lift a weight from his entire family. By easing the financial strain, his parents could better provide for their household’s most basic needs, while Nelson gains the chance to build a brighter, more secure future.
