Dachecca
University of the Renaissance
Computer Science

Dachecca grew up in Corail, a small coastal town, but now resides in a tiny one-room house in Jeremie with her sister. Her parents and five brothers still live in Corail, where her father, the primary breadwinner, works tirelessly to support their large family despite the difficult economic situation. Driven by a strong determination to succeed, Dachecca left her parents as a teenager to live with her grandfather in Port-au-Prince, allowing her to attend a better high school. After graduating, she returned to Jeremie in 2022 and has been living there ever since.

After she returned to Jeremie, Dachecca enrolled in professional courses through a local organization called Impactech, but her dream was to get her college degree. Now, she is studying computer science at the University of the Renaissance in Jeremie. Dachecca’s goal is to leverage her skills to secure a job and eventually start her own business in her hometown of Corail. She says, “After I finish school, I would like to invest my time in a way that is beneficial for me, my family, and society, and I want to invest in our community and help those who are in need. My dream is to become a successful entrepreneur and an excellent technician.”

Education

Education is a step toward a brighter future. However, most families struggle to afford to send their kids to school. When a student is supported through Thrive Ansanm, we cover the cost of their tuition and other school costs, so they can stay in school and succeed.

Technology

Digital access creates opportunity and connection. Most Haitian students don’t have a computer or high-speed internet, but at our resource center local students can access laptops, high-speed internet, and consistent electricity, so they won’t get left behind in today’s digital world.

Mentoring

Mentoring develops the leaders of tomorrow. We match university students with personal mentors who who provide guidance from their experience. These mentors are qualified professionals from the local community, so they understand the unique challenges confronting Haitian students.
