Dumy lives with his mom, stepdad, and many family members in a tiny house in a crowded, low-income neighborhood in Jeremie. After Hurricane Matthew destroyed their home in 2016, this small house was the best they could rebuild. Like many families in Haiti, most of Dumy’s household members are unemployed. His mother’s small business is their primary source of income, but it isn’t enough to meet all their needs. Dumy often goes hungry and says his life has been full of hardships, but he never stopped dreaming of a brighter future.
Since graduating from high school a few years ago, he has been hoping and praying for an opportunity to continue his education, and now he is studying computer science at the University of the Renaissance. He is incredibly grateful for this chance to get a college education and is determined to work hard so he can one day support his family.
