Lovelyca and her family lost their home in the 2010 earthquake when she was only a baby. Ever since then, they have lived in a little one-room shack in a slum in Carrefour. So desperate was her family’s situation that when she entered our program at the age of 9, she had never even attended school. At first school was a struggle because she was so far behind, but we set her up with extra lessons during afternoons to help her catch up, and now she is doing much better. Now she is in 2nd grade, and she is happy to be in school because she knows that she almost missed the chance.
